After a long, but perfectly beautiful day out with our child, my husband and looked forward to unwind. We began chatting and as the conversation progressed, suddenly, I found myself snapping at him out loud, it happened instantly and probably through my subconscious state of mind.
As God fearing as my husband is, he simply reached out to his Bible, began to read and ignored me. I felt awful about myself, at that moment without delay I apologized to God first, highlighted the fact that I am not perfect then conveniently began to comfort myself with reasonable excuses to behave the way I did, but I didn’t get away with it so easily, the Holy Spirit immediately convicted me.
I feel that my conduct towards my husband was that of a "tame" wild animal which unexpectedly attacked its owner because of its animal instincts that still exists inside.
The question that came to my mind was, what does it mean to be born again?
It means that we are no longer “wild animals” or in a sinful nature, because we have rebirthed into new beings in Christ. Being born again does not mean that we are now tame children of God, instead we are totally new beings with new DNA and a new SPIRIT .1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
Imagine being back to a state of a child, born again also requires growth in faith, additionally it also means that we need to have childlike faith. Toddlers don't understand hatred very well, they are always forgiving and merciful, we ought to forgive ourselves, forgive others and move on because God has great plans for our lives.
I realized that I need to grasp that as a born again child of God, I should start doing what it takes to renew my mind from sinner state to having a kingdom mindset. I have entered the Kingdom of God, a different in a different place, my entire environment has changed, I am now apart of God's Kingdom, no more a commoner, I am set apart, my Soul and Body needs to grasp that I have a NEW SPIRIT within me. I must transform, change my habits, thoughts and behavior as a humble Christian, living in a Kingdom. I have to immerse myself in God's Word because the only way the Spirit can be seen or heard is through the Word of God.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 New International Version (NIV) 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ezekiel 36:26 "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
As I delight myself in the Lord, I strive to rid myself of the old negative thoughts, words, behavior which sits in my subconscious state of mind, and replace them with positive ones that are pleasing to God, my entire mind is being renewed which will trigger Christ like behavior. Psalm 119:15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
As a born again child of God, I cannot have one foot in the world because I am BORN again, I am a new Spiritual being. 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
Here is a beautiful prayer from David:
Psalm 51:8-12 New King James Version (NKJV)
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,That the bones You have broken may rejoice.9 Hide Your face from my sins,And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,And renew a steadfast spirit within me.11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
