The Word of God is filled with beautiful, amazing promises of blessing, favor, prosperity, peace, joy, increase, a life of abundance and the list goes on. Why then does it seem that we are lacking so much of this today in our lives as Christians? Matthew 21:22, Jesus says:" And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." Let's take a closer look at the word "ASK" from this verse. If we address only this word, then we can already address this question to a great extent.
Consider who are we asking? Does Jesus refer to a stranger, a family member or the government? Off-course not! He is referring to our Heavenly Father. God, like any loving Father, wants to abundantly bless His children and wants only the best for them. Many people may believe and are being told they are automatically born as a child of God however we are not, we are actually born an enemy of God. He wants to adopt us and renew us! We need to accept the Lord first!
Now some of you might be saying "how can you say that?" Well, the sadreality is that whilst we give, go to church on Sundays, join connect groups, call Jesus our Lord and preach the gospel, yet we are not officially inwardly changed, "Matthew 23:28: So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness". this means that you are not in a covenant relationship with God.
Matthew 7:21: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven". Many have not accepted God, therefore are not a child of God as yet, regardless of the good works, why? Because it is impossible to be a child of God, if you are INTENTIONALLY sinning!
Imagine asking a total stranger to give you something. The stranger will provide for his own children's needs first instead of an unknown person! You need to have a relationship with God, a faithful covenant relationship with Him! He wants to do wonderful things in your life and give you the things you are praying for. He first needs you to draw near to Him and to know Him intimately.
